84 stray cats?

You know, a Malay guy will arrive on his bike at around 4:30 p.m. on the street side of Jalan Sultan Ismail daily, the most famous, busiest mid-class shopping location in Kuala Lumpur. Both locals and foreigners are seen in every nook and cranny. Yes, our own Golden Triangle. But he isn't alone. He brought along about a dozen CATS with him! Those are the stray cats he rescued from the streets, garbage, drains, everywhere.

It’s uncommon, or maybe a little peculiar to see such person doing such thing there in the heart of our cosmopolitan city center. Such man who loves cats and is doing a charity, in which anyone who wants to take pictures with his cats would be charged RM 5. And for video shots, RM 10. Or any amounts, with or without picture taking or video shooting. He has all the necessary licenses, black and white of what he needs to do the charity.

His name is Jamil. He is a part time photographer. And his love and compassion for cats have driven him to do such unusual thing, besides being a photographer. But Jamil isn't a timid, shy guy or an introvert person. He is very bold, aggressive, intimidating, great defender of his cats and his own reputation, and sometimes hostile, to the point of shouting at people who take photos of his cats without paying the basic charges. He will NEVER allow anyone to despise him. Or if he comes across any, heaven helps the fools who do it. He uses his loud speaker to attract the many, many passer-by from 4:30p.m. until late evening.

But at the same time, he’s also a friendly person if one gets to know him better. He’s also a funny guy, who hilariously superimposed his face on the Sultan of Malaysia in his name card!

All the stray cats he rescued are well trained. The cats won't leave his bike, and will do whatever he commands with his loud, aggressive voice. They’re toilet trained, tamed, and are healthy looking. But of course, the costs for the cats’ foods, the visits to the veterinarian, medications and so on are very expensive. He’s having 84 cats at present at present and he has been putting his entire life on taking care of his cats.

Nope, no girlfriend, No time for that. He said. Cool! But the expenditures are not cool. He has to pay thousands of Ringgits per month on those lucky cats!

He also told me that unlike SPCA, he would neither spay (removal of reproduction organs) nor practice euthanasia. His religion, Muslim disallowed him to, he continued. So his cats would continue to give births and the yolk on his shoulders would become heavier! Despite of that, he continues to take care of both the newborns and the grown up cats. Sure, I extremely respect his strong stand of self-principle and integrity. I’ve never come across somebody else like Jamil. Very likely there’s no other Jamil in Kuala Lumpur.

So he worked hard, called out with his loud speaker. Usually the foreigners donated more, with the higher currencies of greenbacks and Euros. But of course there’re others, esp. the locals who have low opinions of him. He had been pigeonholed as a beggar. Once I had heard that from a group of youngsters in the bus. Others, found him rude.

But as a broad minded person, I didn’t only look at his aggressive, intimidating behavior, but also had observed the other side of the coin. Jamil is neither very handsome nor friendly, but his heart is indeed, beautiful. And that was how we became friends. He was the one who took my pictures with the cats that I put on my profile.

Jamil, oh, Jamil! You make me laugh, and you make me fearful. I always love to see you and all your cute, well-trained cats. Only that I’ve to leave the city center (Sungai Wang) earlier these days, before you arrived at 4:30 p.m. If I’ve some money left, I’d be glad to give it to you, or ask somebody else to do it for me, like Ah Chan, the masseur. But I hope Ah Chan wouldn’t mind if it’s on a long-term basis.

There’s no guarantee of anything, but I’ve a lot of avid readers of my blogs and postings in the Magazine section of a Friend Finder website, called Asian Friend Finder.

The rules are strict there and any personal information are not allowed to be put in blogs, postings or any messages there. Please inform me to know more. No promise of anything, but I hope everything would turn out positive.
