Bruce Lee

I cleaned an old cupboard and found many magazines that I bought last time, and had abandoned them. One of them caught my eyes and triggered my interest. It was a Hong Kong magazine in Chinese, Ming Pao Weekly dated November 2000.

I saw Bruce Lee’s on the cover. So, arming with a dictionary, I revised my near-all-forgotten Chinese reading again. But strange. What I read in this magazine was NOT found on English books on Lee that imported from US that I browsed before.

The English books only praised and flattering on Lee’s kung fu, ‘Jit Tuin Khuin and ‘Wing Chun’. Lee is also a very respectful figure, a kung fu ‘god’ by his admirers and those who practice his kung fu. But actually, do the Westerners, esp. those practicing his kung fu know what had really happened to Lee? We, the Chinese or those who have read any Chinese magazines or paper articles on Lee’s know what had happened to him.

In Ming Pao, the reporters wrote a comprehensive article about him. The reporters went to interview Ting Pui and Miu Ho Sau, two of Lee’s girlfriends before his death, but without clear descriptions what had happened to Lee the last minutes before his death. Hence, I don’t have any solid evidences.

But when I snooped about it with my friend, she said that in some other Chinese magazines described that Lee had taken a type of headache medicine and then having s*x with Ting, and that activity caused Lee’s brain hemorrhage.

In my opinion, it’s LOGICAL that the medicine alone didn’t cause the brain hemorrhage. The same headache relieved medicine had been taken by Lee before, and so was Ting, and nothing had happened. And my friend told me from the magazines she had read back then had described that strong activity like s*x, together with the medicine, gushed the blood to Lee’s brain and caused the hemorrhage.

The magazine started with Lee’s situations. So what had happened? Here it goes, and making it short ‒

Lee was a married man. He and his Caucasian wife, Linda, had 2 . Although his kung fu was excellent and his martial arts are practiced to this day by the entire world, he was actually a promiscuous man, having extra marital affairs. This is unknown by the Westerners.

On 20th July 1973, Lee’s was found dead on Ting’s bed, in the room of her home! Ting was summoned to go to the court in September 1973.

Linda’s lawyer had questioned Ting. Ting admitted that she was alone with Lee on the night of Lee’s death and that she also had given a headache relieved medicine in tablets to Lee. She also claimed that she had taken the same medicine whenever she had headache, but didn’t know the name of the medicine, but it was in aluminum packaging.

Btw, Mr. Jau, a movie producer had gone to Ting’s home when he received the phone call from Ting. When Mr. Jau arrived, both of them tried to wake Lee up. When Lee remained unmoved, they called a doctor and the doctor called for an ambulance. But everything was too late. Lee was pronounced dead on that night. He was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage.

Ting was sentenced not guilty. But after that she received many, many threatening letters. Ting was blamed by Lee’s fans for his death. And there was one particular evidence. Ting was the ONLY person in the entire world knew what had happened on that night she was with Lee.

On another girlfriend of Lee. She was Miu Ho Sau. Lee admired her very much. During the filming of a Lee’s movie, the assistant there asked what Lee wanted to eat. Lee said, ‘I want to eat what Miu has chosen to eat’. He was also seen following Miu wherever Miu went. He also protected her from anyone who disturbed her. But Miu said Lee had very few friends, due to his practicing of martial arts and bad temper that had offended many people.

And there was a rumor that the death of Lee had to do with black magic. He was cast with the spell. And not only that Lee died, but also later, his handsome , Brandon Lee. Brandon Lee was also an actor. But one day, while he was playing with a hand gun, as a jest, unaware that the hand gun was loaded with bullets. He pulled the trigger when he pretending shooting. He died on that day.

Some people who talked about the rumor believed that certain people that hated Lee, or Lee had offended had put spells on him, so that he’d be ‘chuit cai chuit shin’ or ending Lee’s family lineage.

Have any Westerners are told of this story of Lee? Maybe very, very few. His shortcomings are swept under the carpet in English books on him and his martial arts. Goodness, why such hypocrisy? You judge.
