i agree with you on this.

there is a wide separation between the rich and poor in china. however, there is growing middle class but it's not large enough yet to influence the socio/economic/political spectrum.

True, when the decision was made to change from a centralized economic system to one the encouraged private enterprise, those in power or with strong political connections were the ones who benefited the most. They were the ones who were able to seize the factories, the real estate needed to build new infrastructure, and also to import the labor they needed to run their factories. They were the ones who created the industrial base that has brought china to the forefront as a leading exporter of inexpensive goods. The quality has also risen in the past few years that they now are able to go head-to-head with many of the name-brand products. Of course, western companies helped with this by building factories in china and training management to meet western standards of quality control

However, china still depends on cheap labor and there is indeed an abundance of this. The major problem remains that china is dependent on exports in order to fuel its economy. Until china is able to create a middle class that can afford to purchase its surplus export goods then it will always be subject to the economic problems of the west.

Thank you for your insight. I enjoyed reading your blog.
