谢儿

某翁中年丧妻，拉扯着四个儿子，家贫如洗，邻里亲友疏而远之。

所幸儿子们聪颖超人，长成后或入仕或经商，皆有所成。尤其大儿官至乡长，权倾一方。此翁老来得福，荣耀故里，邻里亲友遇婚丧嫁娶都极力相邀，惟恐不至。此翁每宴必至，宴毕一抹油嘴便走，从不道谢。

及至家中，才道：“多谢儿！”家人不解，问其故，曰：当年人们避我如瘟疫，如今却极力奉迎巴结，何故？皆因吾儿为一乡之长，欲有所求罢了。我不谢儿，谢谁？

吾闻此事，如鲠在喉，不吐不快。是为记！
