Saving the nature ... a profitable bussiness :D

We call it PORANG in Indonesia. You might have known this plant as devil's tongue. It has very beautiful big flower ... but also very smelly one. The reason we also call it "bunga bangkai" ... the corps flower. The scientific name is Amarphopallus Onchopilus

The farmers here didnt know that this plant is a very beneficial one. The japanese use the tubes to make shirataki noodles and konyaku. It contains glucomannan which is good to use as food additive, gelatin for capsules caps, diet food ingredient, etc.

But the most interesting part of this plant is its nature. This plant can only grow well under shades. That is why they grow excellent in deep forest.

This very plant can help preventing deforestation. Before knowing that konjac can be profitable, people cut down or burn forest. They sell the logs and plant on the newly opened field.

Now that they know about konjac, the would guard the forest because they need the trees to shade the konjacs. They wont cut down nor burn the forest either.

See ... we can do more for the earth and still earn some good money

@Davinci ... oh yes ... we do plant jatropha as well as castor (ricinus communis). I will write about our jatropha and castor plantations soon. Right now, we are opening another 100acres castor plantations working together with UN to be planted on the mountains where the soil is bad.

Castor and jatropha are good to restore the soil fertility. They produce nitrogen which is essential for the soil. We already proved that after the soil was planted with castor and/or jatropha, we can plant sesame on it. Before that, it is impossible to plant anything on that soil.

Sounds like we have a plan there, tuisho. Why dont you send a small amount first for me to try to grow. Lets say a few kgs. I dont think the government wont make any issue out of it. Just say that its a sample beans
