Ozone layer: the hole is closing...

There is a story on Yahoo this morning claiming the hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic has begun to shrink. It's attributed to the 1987 ban (Montreal Protocol) of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and/or chemicals that were once emitted by dry cleaning, refrigerators, hairspray and other aerosols believed to destroy/deplete ozone in the atmosphere.

Living in Florida, we don't see any amount of Ozone layer healing. You could be in the sun for 20 minutes and get a noticeable burn.

Personally, unless there is something different than atmospheric ozone, I would have though scientists would have Ozone generators on the tops or skyscrapers to replenish the depleted Ozone.

RYT1, there are many theories and a lot of misleading facts about the ozone layer.

I recall the ban on Freon came around the time the patent held by Dupont corporation was soon to expire. They would stand to loose millions if other companies were to produce Freon that (considered expensive to purchase) was said to be inexpensive to produce.
Dupont was already prepared (and part of the push to ban Freon) with patents for the Freon replacements so it was impossible to compete with them with any substitute refrigerant.
