I'm back~

Yesterday I finished my last examination-Ancient Chinese Literature,my favourable major. And on my way home ,one of my foreign friends complained to me that it is so hard for her to learn the facts and figures of Chinese.

Of course, Chinese is hard, although most Chinese people don't think so. After all, any foreign language is hard for a non-native, right? Well, sort of. Not all foreign languages are equally difficult for any learner. It depends on which language you're coming from. A French person can usually learn Italian faster than an American, and an average American could probably master German a lot faster than an average Japanese, and so on.

All in all,The entire Chinese character corpus ranges from 54,678 to 85,568,most of the characters are archaic and obscure, only roughly 10,000 are now commonly in use

Otherwise, the entire Chinese vocabulary, according to the 12-volumed Hanyu Da Cidian 汉语大词典, records more than 23,000 head Chinese characters, and gives over 370,000 definitions. And
reportedly, the corpus of characters of grade-sixth students in China is 2500-3000, high school graduates 4300, college graduates' are also around 4300, since most of them are not required to memorise charaters any more after high school, if they don't major in Chinese linguistics and literature(unluckily, my major is Chinese linguistics and literatures)

Minimum requirement for a foreigner to Chinese universities is HSK level 3 ,out of 11 levels, which means at least 100 hours of regular modern Chinese learning, knowing around 1000 characters. The top level requirs 2900 characters and 8800 words. It's really a hard work.

爱的真谛

爱是恒久忍耐,又有恩慈; 爱是不嫉妒;爱是不自夸,不张狂,不作害羞的事,不求自己的益处,不轻易发怒,不计算人的恶,不喜欢不义,只喜欢真理;凡事包容,凡事相信,凡事盼望,凡事忍耐。爱是永不止息。(圣经林前13:4-8)

Love is patient, love is kind {and} is not jealous; love does not brag {and} is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong {suffered, } does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; (Bible 1Co13:4-

Actually in 2009 they changed the levels of the HSK test. It used to be 11 levels but now only 6 levels.

The new type of examination consists of two independent parts; a written test and an oral test. The written test is comprised of: HSK-Levels 1 - 6

While the oral test is comprised of: HSK(Elementary), HSK (Intermediate) and HSK (Advanced).

HSK- Level 1
Designed for learners who can understand and use some simple Chinese characters and sentences to communicate, and prepares them for continuing their Chinese studies ~ Vocabulary 150 words

HSK- Level 2
Designed for elementary learners who can use Chinese in a simple and direct manner, applying it in a basic fashion in their daily lives ~ Vocabulary 300 words (this is about where I am)

HSK- Level 3
Designed for elementary-intermediate learners who can use Chinese to serve the demands of their personal lives, studies and work, and are capable of completing most of the communicative tasks they experience during their Chinese tour ~ Vocabulary 600 words

HSK- Level 4
Designed for intermediate learners who can discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and are capable of communicating with Chinese speakers at a high standard ~ Vocabulary 1,200 words

HSK- Level 5
Designed for learners who can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese films and are capable of writing and delivering a lengthy speech in Chinese ~ Vocabulary 2,500 words

HSK- Level 6
Designed for learners who can easily understand any information communicated in Chinese and are capable of smoothly expressing themselves in written or oral form. ~ Vocabulary over 5,000 words

However, this is a little confusing because the main HSK website still shows the old system with 11 levels.

~Peace~
