Is Life in Prison without Parole a Better Option Than the Death Penalty?

This has been a long time debate from the different people in all views of life.
I just read some article about this topic.

The death execution of 8 men by firing squad that happened in Indonesia last April 28, 2015 due to drug cases had caused a lot of criticisms from different people.

Most people reacted that firing squad could be a cruel way of punishment instead of lethal injection.
Most said better life in prison without a parole.According to them, they better suffer much in prison that taking away their life.

I have been watching and reading news about a Filipina maid who was about to be executed with the 8 men. She was innocent as she was framed and duped into unknowingly acting as a drug mule.I have read her story, She's a single mom of 2 boys. She started to work in Dubai long time ago for 2 years but was not able to finish her contract. She only worked for 10 months as a maid. She went back home because her employer tried to take advantage of her. Then she met her recruiter and used her as a drug smuggler without her knowledge.
She was not executed with the 8 men last night and granted her clemency after her recruiter surrendered to the police. The president of the Phils tried his best to appeal to Indonesia to save her. The people here had blamed also the Phil president because of the last minute assistance. The case is still on going.
I have known of maids and OFW who work overseas for their families. Being away from their and partners is really a big sacrifice. They experience homesickness and depression but they need to earn more money for their loved ones because they can't find any good opportunity in their own homeland.

Here are the pros and cons of the death penalty vs life in prison:

PRO (yes) -----
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) stated the following in an article titled "The Truth About Life Without Parole: Condemned to Die in Prison," available on its website (accessed Apr. 13, 2015):
"The facts prove that life in prison without the possibility of parole (LWOP) is swift, severe, and certain punishment...

The death penalty costs more, delivers less, and puts innocent lives at risk. Life without parole provides swift, severe, and certain punishment. It provides justice to survivors of murder victims and allows more resources to be invested into solving other murders and preventing violence. Sentencing people to die in prison is the sensible alternative for public safety and murder victims’ families."

CON (No)------

David R. Dow, JD, Cullen Professor at the University of Houston Law Center, stated the following in his Oct. 26, 2012 article titled "Life Without Parole: A Different Death Penalty,"
"As a death row lawyer who fights to keep his alive, I believe life without parole denies the possibility of redemption every bit as much as strapping a murderer to the gurney and filling him with poison...
I've had who want me to fight for them, and then when we win and get their death sentence converted into life, end up telling me I've betrayed them...
For California's 725 death row inmates, having their sentences commuted to life without parole would mean automatically losing their right to state-appointed lawyers to pursue their habeas corpus appeals. For a huge proportion, this would instantly rob them of every last ember of hope and increase by up to 20 percent the number of California inmates who will grow old and die behind bars.
