Lin, Yu-tang wrote, " The Chinese are proud of eating. We take it seriously.... Open the pages of the ever-lasting love story ¡° Dream of The Red Chamber ¡± or any Chinese novel. You¡¯ll be struck by the detailed descriptions of the entire menu of the day¡­.The Chinese poets have sung about food. ¡­."

( Expressions in referrence to food, wine and dining are embedded in the Chinese language that are frequently used even when the occasion has nothing to do with eating.)

" Look at the English language, there is no word for ¡°cuisine¡±. They just call it ¡°cooking¡±. And there is no proper word for ¡°chef ¡±. They just call him a cook. And they don¡¯t even have a word for ¡°gourmet¡±"
