I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND IF ....
you have to think before you speak to me!

I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND IF ....
my presence ever makes you feel uncomfortable!

I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND IF ....
you have to thank me for everything I do for you!

I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND IF ....
you have to say sorry for everything that you don't do!

If Only We Had Wings - Poem

If only we had wings
then we would fly to you
no matter where you are
whenever you feel blue.

We'd hold you oh so tight
in sister embrace
and kiss your tears away
and brighten up your days.

But now we don't have wings
so through the Internet
we take a cyber flight
the fastest we can get
We give you cyber hugs
and kisses, the sisterly kind
to let you know we care
and won't leave you behind.

We're always here for you
no matter where you are
and we want you to know
you have friends near and far!

Take Time For Maintenance

Constant stress and lack of sleep wear down the immune system.

A great analogy appears in the book, Redeeming The Time, by Philip D. Patterson (College Press, 1995). He asks us to imagine the following announcement by the pilot as we prepare to take off. "Ladies and gentlemen," he says, "by the end of this trip you will have been a part of history. During this flight, this aircraft will set a record for most consecutive miles flown without stopping for routine maintenance." He is referring, of course, to the equally ridiculous habit many of us have of working continuously under stress and deadlines without stopping to renew our bodies. Even machines need routine maintenance.

Here are five suggestions for preventive maintenance.

1. Always have some way of working off mental and emotional stress. Engage in a regular exercise program.

2. Have interests other than your job.

3. Make it a habit to talk over your problems with a close friend.

4. Block off vacations in your calendar ahead of anything else. Relaxation is necessary in order to keep your mind alert, your body healthy, and your family together.

5. Above all, remember that who you are is more important than what you do.

Some people take better care of their office equipment than they do their own bodies. The human body is a lot more valuable than machinery. And with a little care it may have a longer life. But one thing it doesn't have is a warranty or money-back guarantee. There are not returns or allowances. So spend all the time and money necessary for preventive maintenance when you schedule time for your projects next week, make sure you schedule time for yourself. Adequate sleep, exercise and nourishment are things you can't afford to be without. As someone once claimed, "Pausing to attend a funeral is not a time waster unless it's your own."

Make Minor Decisions Quickly

Special time in proportion to the importance of the decision.

Delegation

Don't give all the assignments to your most capable staff members or they will continue to get stronger while the weaker members of your team remain weak. Use delegation as a training tool to develop your staff.

Meet Less

Whenever someone calls to set up an appointment to see you, see if you can settle the matter right there on the phone. Taking a few extra minutes on the spot may save hours later.

Plan Your Telephone Calls

Plan each call before you make it. Chances are, you'll be leaving a message on somebody's voice mail and you don't want to be stammering and stuttering and forgetting half of what you wanted to say. Jot down the things you want to say or points you want to make - brief headings - on a telephone log form or steno pad or on an electronic communications form if you dial from your computer. Leave a complete message of the person's not there. Indicate what action you want the person to take. If it's not necessary to be called back, say so.

Avoid Upward Delegation.

Ask for solutions, not problems.

Eight Special Gifts

1. The Gift of Listening ....
But you must REALLY listen. No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response. Just listening.

2. The Gift of Affection ....
Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.

3. The Gift of Laughter ....
Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you."

4. The Gift of Written Note ....
It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.

5. The Gift of A Compliment ....
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job" or "That was a wonderful meal" can make someone's day.

6. The Gift of A Favor ....
Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.

7. The Gift of Solitude ....
There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.

8. The Gift of A Cheerful Disposition ....
The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really it's not that hard to say, "Hello" or "Thank you."

Knowing, WHERE TO, makes us different !!!!

A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out how to fix the engine.

Then they bought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.
"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"
So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read :
Tapping with a hammer ...... $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap ...... $ 9,998.00

Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference!

Life and Happy At This Moment

We convince ourselves that life will be better once we are married, have a baby, then another.

Then we get frustrated because our are not old enough, and that all will be well when they are older.

Then we are frustrated because they reach adolescence and we must deal with them. Surely we'll be happy when they grow out of the years.

We tell ourselves our life will be better when our spouse gets his/her act together, when we have a nicer car, when we can take a vacation, when we finally retire.

The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now.
If not, then when?
Your life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy in spite of it all.

For the longest time, it seemed that life was about to start. Real life.
But there was always some obstacle along the way, an ordeal to get through, some work to be finished, some time to be given, a bill to be paid. Then life would start.
I finally came to udnerstand that these obstacles were life.

That point of view helped me see that there isn't any road to happiness.
Happiness IS the road.

So, enjoy every moment.
Stop watching for school to end, for a return to school, to lose ten pounds, to gain ten pounds, for work to begin, to get married, for Friday evening, for Sunday morning, waiting for a new car, for your mortage to be paid off, for spring, for summer, for fall, for winter, for the first or the fifteenth of the month, for your song to be played on the radio, to die, to be reborn .... before deciding to be happy.

Happiness is a voyage, not a destination.
There is no better time to be happy than ....
NOW!
Live and enjoy the moment
